Ruth Roman was born on June 22, 1939 on June 22, 1939 in Lynn Massachusetts. She was the first child born to Lithuanian Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold & Abraham Roman. The young woman was just a toddler when her father who was the carnival barker, passed away. The mother of the family had to work in jobs including waitressing and cleaning. Ruth attended school, and grew up in poverty within Boston Massachusetts in the tenement district. The school she attended after only two years in order to pursue a career as an actor. The route she took was not without obstacles. While in New York, her first task was to pose stills in crime magazines. acting work she wanted eluded. When she was employed as a hat-check girl in a nightclub, she resigned and went back to Boston. She worked as an usherette in the mornings and appeared at the New England Repertory Company by night, which was her first acting position that was permanent. She completed her studies at Bishop-Lee Theatre School, where she specialized in drama.
